When someone you love in New York has died, and you are in Chicago, the distance is hard. You may not be able to travel in time for the service. Sending flowers is a way to be present when you cannot be there in person, a way of saying I am with you across the country.
Same-day delivery from Chicago to New York
New York is one hour ahead of Chicago. Order by 1pm Central time and we can usually arrange same-day delivery across Manhattan; later than that, we deliver the next morning. For a funeral or service with a fixed time, the earlier you can tell us, the better we can plan.
What to send
If the flowers are going to a funeral home or church for a service, formal pieces are right — standing sprays and wreaths. Browse our funeral service flowers. If they are going to the family's home, a softer arrangement or a lasting orchid is welcoming — see sympathy flowers and sympathy orchids. When in doubt, white is always appropriate: our white sympathy flowers. If you would like to understand the conventions first, our sympathy flower etiquette guide walks through them.
How it works
You order online, or you call and we take the details by phone. Every arrangement is hand-designed in our Manhattan studio — nothing is drop-shipped or relayed through a third party, which is rare for an out-of-town order and matters when the gesture is this personal. We deliver it ourselves, and we can time a funeral delivery to arrive before the service. To talk it through, call (212) 308-3794; the studio answers from 9am Eastern.
Telling us where it needs to go
For a home delivery we need the recipient's address. For a service we need the funeral home or church name and address and, ideally, the time it begins — our guide to sending flowers to a funeral home explains what to gather. Add a card message; short and sincere is best, and our sympathy card message library has wording if you need it.
